Gwarb…or Glarb?

I was working on a new monster stat block a few days ago and my five-year-old son asked if he could help. He’s really into reading my monster manuals/bestiaries to the point where he’ll forgo bedtime stories in exchange for a few monster stat blocks and a bit of lore, so I knew his expertise would prove helpful.

The creature he came up with tickled me so much that I knew I had to share it (with his blessing) with all of you. My son explained the Gwarb/Glarb (we’re working on his elocution) is a purple-furred monster that’s taller than a daddy and can sniff out zombies which are, of course, its favorite food. It has big, sharp claws and four eyes that have little black lines in the middle like a snake’s eyes. Lastly, it walks on all fours, is always sniffing with its big nose, and can jump on things from a long way away.

I’ve tried my best to represent his vision in the following stat block. I hope the Gwarb has an opportunity to thrive in your world, ridding the land of zombies and jumping/sniffing all over your campaign.

Gwarb/Glarb

Nose for Rot. The Gwarb knows the location of any corpse or corporeal undead within 120 feet of it. It also has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Standing Leap. The Gwarb’s long jump is up to 25 ft. and its high jump is up to 15 ft., with or without a running start.

Pounce. If the Gwarb moves at least 10 feet straight toward a creature and then hits with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must make a DC 14 saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the Gwarb can make one claw attack as a bonus action.

Consume the Dead. The Gwarb can forgo one of its claw attacks to eat a corpse or corporeal undead creature. If this creature is medium size or larger, the Gwarb regains 10 hit points (1d10 + 4).

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The Gwarb makes two attacks with its claws.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
